Teacher to restore school’s bounce

-

A TEACHER has launched a fundraising bid to replace a senior school’s popular trampolines.

When two of the four trampolines at Haslingden High School were condemned, PE teacher Erika Wilson set about fundraising for replacements and she has secured £2,500 towards the nearly £7,000 required thanks to sponsorship offered after the school held its Sports’ Awards Evening.

Mrs Wilson said: “We usually just have the awards, but Head of PE Wes Haworth allowed me to speak for a few minutes to explain the problem we had with the trampolines.

“I never set out to raise money on that day, but first Tony Holt from Linemark donated £500 and others followed.”

The school runs popular after-school trampolining clubs on Wednesdays and Fridays.

The sport has become more popular at school with the success of the year seven boys team competing in the North West Schools’ Competition; coming second in the national final.

Mrs Wilson said: “Losing two out of the four trampolines has had an impact on how the club is run. A former student, Kelly Constant, provides the coaching and she has had to introduce core exercises and gymnastics because students can’t spend the time they normally would on the trampolines.”

Year nine student Lois Hilton and her mother are taking part in a halfmarathon in September for the trampoline appeal and are encouraging others to join them.

Companies who have donated so far include Linemark/HD signs, Tailwaggers Dogotel and Cattery, Swift Security Products, Altcad Limited, Norden Recovery, Neary’s store, Haslingden High PTFA and JSA Print.
