Sporty school children raise £5,500 for HAPPI pool fund
FUNDRAISING pupils in Helmshore will present a cheque to a community pool restoration project.
Children from Helmshore Primary School on Gregory Fold, chose to dedicate their charity efforts towards supporting the Haslingden All People’s Pool Initiative (HAPPI).
And the school is proud to reveal it has raised more than £5,500 so far for the HAPPI project.
They celebrated the Queen’s birthday by staging an action-packed day of activities and dressing in red, white and blue sports gear.
Children were sponsored by family and friends to ‘complete a mile’ whether by walking, running, dancing, jumping, skipping or hopping around the school field with their class.
Diane Mawdsley, senior administrator at Helmshore Primary, School, said: “We are pleased to have raised in excess of £5,500 for HAPPI to date.”
HAPPI director Selina Hope and another volunteer from the project have arranged to visit the school on Tuesday, July 14 to meet with the Helmshore headteacher Christine Myers and the pupils who helped raise the money.
They will then be issued with a cheque for the total raised so far.
A NEEDLE felting workshop will be held by Veterans in Communities.
It will take place at the centre on Bury Road, Haslingden, on Saturday, July 30 at 10am. The cost will be £25 per person which includes a starter kit, a small pack of wool and instructions to make an animal.
Refreshments will be provided. Places need to be booked and a deposit of £5 paid. Call 01706 833180 for more information.
AN agricultural farm in Helmshore is preparing to host a new beer festival.
Kiln Clough Farm, located between Helmshore and Irwell Vale, specialises in the breeding of native and rare breed animals such as the Belted Galloway cattle and Oxford Sandy and Black pigs.
Over the August bank holiday weekend they are opening up part of the farm to the general public and holding an outdoor beer festival where they plan to serve a variety of craft ales, lagers, ciders and wines.
They will also have live music at the event and organiser Barney Vine says they hope to offer a “unique experience where people can enjoy the delights of a traditional beer festival within the beautiful surroundings of the Rossendale countryside.”
