Rams out to end run of rotten fortune

-

SHELDAN KEAY RAMSBOTTOM will look to finally put their terrible run of luck behind them when they travel to Church.

Their last five league games have all been called off due to the weather, meaning they haven’t completed a match since the start of June.

The top of the table side will hope that ends when they head to Blackburn Road to face Church, who currently sit in 10th place.

Haslingden Cricket Club will be hoping to build on their Worsley Cup success last weekend when they take on Colne on Sunday.

They head into the match at Bentgate on the back of their victory at Church to book their place in the final of the cup competition.

Haslingden and Colne are both joint fifth in the table, with a victory seeing the visitors leapfrog their opponents.

Rawtenstall have also fell victim to the weather in recent weeks, and they’ll hope that isn’t the case when they visit Burnley.

A victory for Rawtenstall over second placed Burnley could see them climb as high as 10th if other results go their way.

Bottom of the table Bacup host Lowerhouse, hoping to pick up the win and close the gap on second bottom Accrington.

The Twenty20 competition enters the semi-final stage on Friday, but none of the local sides have managed to make it that far.

Ramsbottom were the last to fall last week, losing to Church at the quarterfinal stage of the tournament. Haslingden, Rawtenstall and Bacup were all eliminated in the group stage CYCLING DEREK SCHOFIELD ROSSENDALE Road Club hosted the final round of the 2016 Lakes and Lancs Spoco time trial series on their Bolton by Bowland circuit, and it was a bitter-sweet end to the Spring season for the valley club.

On the day, a strong tail wind blew up the main climb to Paythorne and Paul Warrener took advantage to take the V50 award, with Derek Schofield some 30 seconds back being the first V60.

Warrener finished the top valley club rider in the series, but the results weren’t enough to raise the team’s position and they ended in sixth overall, behind local rivals North Lancs RC.

This was a disappointing result for Rossendale, their lowest finish for many years, with the top spot going to the Lakes RC.

Nearer home, on Tuesday evening guest rider Louis Szymanski of the ABC Centreville club won the latest round of the Harry Law 10 mile series at Hapton in a fine time of 22:55 min.

Roy Flanagan was the best RRC rider in fourth place in 26:39.

The series continues next Tuesday, all are welcome, with sign-on from 6.30pm at the Hapton Inn. ●● Paul Warrener at the start of the Bolton by Bowland TT
