TOR View unveils plans to become an Academy next year (website and Free Press July 8)

Peter Sweetmore: This is an exciting time for this outstanding school, where the needs of each individual pupil are paramount in the decision to move to Academy status. Lots of work is happening ‘behind the scenes’ to ensure a smooth transition, which everyone involved believes will help continue the vision to provide the best possible education for this very special group of young people. Corinne Barnes Delargy: I hope this means they get the proper funding they deserve. Becky Lord: Few months and my little chap starts.

COUNCIL to bring in landlord to manage empty homes (website and July 8)

Frank Rogers: The tender process, together with the appointment, needs to be transparent, robust, and professionally managed. As important, if not more important, is the follow-up project management process. Councillors must not be allowed to wash their hands of the project, as they did with the AAAW catastrophe, and come up with the lame excuse “no one told us anything”. Regular checking and financial reporting processes need to be put in place, and monies only released when first-hand knowledge of work having been carried out is proved.

Malcolm Hosker: How can Rossendale council get away with this diabolical farce of a housing scheme, and then expect the council tax payers to foot the bill again after the fact that it was tax payers that funded it in the first place, is there no law that this comes under for miss handling government

funds?

Alan Jowett: The answer is that many people in Rossendale would vote Labour come what may and many others don’t bother to vote at all. But the day may come when even Labour voters have had enough as they have in Scotland. Clive Williamson: When is the local MP getting to start asking questions in the House of Commons? His voice is not been heard. Does he know something we should know as council tax payers ?

Gareth Trickett: Put politics to one side and get this scheme up and running affordable housing is much needed

Jason Gledhill: Where’s the resignations? Obviously no sense of responsibility or accountability in Rossendale Council or its elected members.

Tony Winder: Under the current leadership they don’t know the meaning of resignation. Susan Jayne Grindrod: How can a council lose £600,000 of our council tax money on a complete shambles of this scheme? Anyone else in business that is the cause of such a huge loss would be dismissed, or am I wrong? Jane Roberts-nee Clough: Has anyone been held accountable for this. ARSONISTS torch Grade II-listed church (website and July 8)

Chris Elliott: No wants to see the place go up in smoke but leaving it like this for years is an invitation to the fire raisers and morons. The Valley is full of ghost buildings. Empty, unused and unloved they are part of our heritage. We seem to be content to see them rot.

Gareth Trickett: What is going on? Every week another report of empty buildings either vandalised or torched. Everyone has a responsibility owners to keep buildings secured and folk leave them alone these buildings i.e The old Waterfoot primary school and now St Saviours church were long before us and will be here long after us leave them alone! Christine Hodgson: Unfortunately it’s not till these morons get older they realise what these beautiful buildings of history mean to us. And then it’s too late.

Tracey Gaunt: Disgusting only up road from us Elaine Heap: So sad Wendy Bird: What a crying shame, so much history being allowed to decay. This place actually has a full size font under the slabs apparently for adult baptisms Wayne Stead: Bring in the demolition boys. Pauline Wilson: How sad
