MRS Carol Jayne Davidson, of Gladstone Street, Bacup died on Friday, July 22, aged 58.

A retired foreign languages teacher, she enjoyed swimming, walking, spending time in Bacup Library, Scrabble, zumba and going to the gym.

She supported Tearfund, a Christian charity passionate about ending poverty.

She was a member of the Rossendale Ramblers and regularly attended church (Acre Mill Baptist, Trinity Baptist, and latterly Weir Baptist).

She leaves her husband John, her children Ruth and Luke Hogan, Edward and Eva Davidson, brother Andrew Sutcliffe, grandchild­ren Amelie, Tyler, Logan, Annie and Matilda.

Her funeral service, conducted by the Rev David Livermore, will be held on Tuesday, August 9 at 10.45am at Trinity Baptist Church, Bacup, followed by cremation at Burnley Crematoriu­m.

FREDA CRABTREE

MRS Freda Crabtree, of The Lindens, Haslingden, previously of Burnley Road East, Waterfoot, died on Saturday, July 30.

She worked at Gaghills Slipper Factory until her retirement. Freda loved knitting, crosswords and old time dancing, and spent many happy hours at St James Church Hall, Waterfoot.

She was the wife of the late James Crabtree. She leaves children Gwen, Trevor and Susan. Her son Barry died in 2002.

There are over 40 grandchild­ren, greatgrand­children and great, great-grandchild­ren in the extended family.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, August 5 with prayers at James Street Chapel of Rest at 1.30pm followed by cremation at Burnley Crematoriu­m at 2.20pm.

Family flowers only with donations to the Alzheimer’s Society.

THOMAS SMITH

MR Thomas William Smith, of Oakley Road, Rawtenstal­l died on Friday, July 29, aged 96.

A retired foreman at Ormerod’s Slippers, he also served in Loyal Regiment in the war.

Thomas loved gardening, reading and walking, as well as spending time with his grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren.

A lifelong parishione­r at St James the Less RC Church, he was the oldest parishione­r in the parish.

Husband of the late Marion, he leaves son Brian and daughter-inlaw Trisha, daughter Vivien and son-in-law David, grandchild­ren Sarah, Jane, Jon, Katie and Becki, and greatgrand­children Eleanor, Thomas, Lily, Max, Edward, Daisy, Jacob and Ezra.

Requiem Mass was due to be held at St James the Less RC Church at 10.30am on Thursday, August 4 conducted by the minister David Lupton followed by interment at Rawtenstal­l Cemetery.

Family flowers are desired and donations are requested to St James the Less RC Church and St Vincent de Paul Society.

STEPHEN HOWORTH

MR Stephen Howorth, of Brunswick Terrace, Stackstead­s died on Monday, July 25, aged 93.

A shoe operative at Olive Mill in Stackstead­s, Stephen loved reading, watching TV as well as horse racing.

He also loved the sun and the odd glass of whisky.

Stephen was very much a family man.

His wife Irene passed away six years ago, and he leaves his daughter Helen and son-in-law Bill.

His funeral service will be held on Friday, August 5 at 12.30pm at Stackstead­s conducted by Peter Cox, followed by cremation at Burnley Crematoriu­m at 1.40pm.

Family flowers welcome if you wish and donations requested to the British Heart Foundation.

JEAN DALEY

JEAN Daley, of Highfield Hall Care Home, died on Monday, July 25, aged 92.

A retired shoe worker from Greenbridg­e, Rawtenstal­l, she enjoyed shopping and painting.

Widow of Harry, she leaves children Victor, Jacqueline and Barbara, four grandchild­ren, eight great-grandchild­ren, and 11 great, greatgrand­children. Her funeral was held on Wednesday, August 3 at Ramsbottom Cemetery.

JEAN LYNSKY

MRS Jean Lynsky, of Ryefield Avenue West, Haslingden, died on Wednesday, July 20 at her home. Wife of the late Derek, she leaves her sons Andrew and Philip and his partner Jane, two grandchild­ren Rebecca and Chelsea, sister Margaret and her close friend from school days Joyce.

Jean was employed at C.W.S. slippers, Haslingden before retiring through ill health. She would be well known in Haslingden walking her dogs Sally and Lucy and was a supporter of donkey charities and Bleakholt.

Her funeral took place on Friday, July 29 with service and cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m officiated by Rev Judith Balkwell. Donations in memory of Jean are for Bleakholt c/o funeral director Josephine Durning for Johnson, Durning and Woods Funeral Service, Haslingden.
