A CARE home has been given a ‘Good’ rating by the Care Quality Commission.

Abbeycroft Care and Nursing Home, on Burnley Road in Loveclough, was given a good rating in all but one area of its inspection by the care body.

The care home, run by Regency Healthcare Ltd, was told it required improvement in how responsive the service was.

In the report, inspectors said that following their last visit in February 2015, improvements had been made on the decor of the building.

They said: “People indicated they felt safe and happy living at the service. We found people were protected from risk without compromising their independence.

“Over the two days of the inspection we noted positive staff interaction and engagement with people using the service. We found staff to be caring and respectful in their approach and treated people as individuals.”

The inspectors said in their report that the responsiveness of the service required improvement.

They said: “We noted the service employed a full time activities coordinator to carry out meaningful activities following a recommendation made in the previous inspection

“People we spoke with and visitors indicated there was sometimes a lack of daily activities and indicated that more would be beneficial.

“Comments included, ‘There are not a great variety of activities - it would be nice to have more going on sometimes’”.

Asif Alvi, director of Regency Healthcare Ltd which runs Abbeycroft Care Home, said: “We are very pleased with the outcome of the inspection. The credit has to go to our care team who continue to work hard to meet everyone’s expectations to a high standard.” A PE teacher from Rawtenstall has become an Ironman and raised more than £1,000 for charity.

Vanessa Holland, 38, completed the Bolton Ironman in 12 hours 16, finishing 33rd out of all the women who took part and generating £1,010 in sponsorship for Pendleside Hospice.

The mum-of-two, who teaches at Alder Grange, hit the water at Pennington Flash in Leigh at 6am for a 2.4-mile swim, finishing as the third woman in the first leg of the triathlon.

She then jumped on her bike and cycled 112 miles to the Macron Stadium in Bolton, before setting off on a 26.2-mile marathon run, finishing in Bolton town centre at around 6pm.

Vanessa chose to raise money for Pendleside Hospice, as her grandad was cared for there.

Vanessa, who lives in Burnley, said: “I did really enjoy it. PLANS have been submitted to turn a Cloughfold cash and carry into a cycle shop.

“The business has been in the current premises on Bacup Road since 1996.

“Since that time, the business has been looking for new premises within Rossendale.

“Lack of space is now it and it didn’t feel like 12 hours’ worth. I have always been a swimmer and running is a passion, though I had to get used an acute problem and harming our business.
