●● Tim Taylor (below) and versions of his book ‘A Far Cry From Bacup’ A BOOK written by a Bacup author who emigrated to South Africa about his life back home has been re-published with more stories about his life in the Valley.

Tim Taylor, 72, wrote A Far Cry From Bacup after reflecting on his life in Rossendale and Africa.

The grandfather-of-two, who worked at the Rawtenstall Shoe and Slipper company at Olive Mill, in Bacup, from 1966 until 1974, a topic he says is covered extensively in the book. He said: “I was encouraged by the response to the first publication of my autobiography so revised and extended the book’s content to cover more about my life in England and my reasons for leaving Bacup forever in 1975.”

Brought up in Bacup, the former St Saviour’s Primary School pupil was involved with the footwear industry for more than 40 years in both the UK and South Africa and attained both graduate and associate membership of the British Boot and Shoe Institute before running footwear factories.

He emigrated to South Africa in 1975, where he joined Shoe Corporation of Africa Ltd as production engineer at its Arcadia factory in Durban. He was recruited to the Department of Trade and Industry in 1996 and is now an honorary life member of the Footwear Institute of South Africa.

The book is available by emailing timtaylor 753@ gmail.com and is priced at £10, £15 or £20 depending on the version.
