Community street fair heads back to town

●● Last year’s Haslingden Street Fair brought thousands of people into the town centre ORGANISERS have announced the return of the Haslingden Community Street Fair.

The event will take place on Higher Deardengat­e on Sunday, September 4, and will run from 11am to 4pm.

With a focus on local community groups and voluntary organisati­ons, organisers hope that the Street Fair will attract visitors from throughout Lancashire.

Last year chairman of the community street fair, John McManus, said that the fair brought as much as £80,000 into the town and for traders.

A variety of stalls have been booked and several fairground rides for children will be on the library car park. Entertainm­ent will see performanc­es from Irish dance group The Black Velvet Band, Tina Fox School of Dance, Bhangra drummers, the Veterans In Community Choir and the Clitheroe Ukulele band.

Local community group Love Haslingden will hold a craft fair at Haslingden Market on the same day.

Leesa Amin, secretary of the Street Fair planning committee, said: “We are extremely excited this year, as the event is driven by community organisati­ons.

“We want to flaunt what Haslingden has to offer.

“We were supported by thousands last year and we hope to replicate the success this year.”
