We have had justice but it will never be enough

Family say they will ‘never be the same again’ after killing

-

SADIE Hartley’s killers have been branded “monsters” by her son.

In his victim impact statement Sadie’s son Harry, 25, said his mum was ‘taken in the cruellest possible way’.

He said: “Those two monsters took one life and have destroyed countless more.

“They are utterly dangerous creatures. I still can’t believe this has happened, it’s been over six months but it feels like yesterday. My mum should be here.”

Sadie’s daughter Charlotte, 23, said: “The two women who murdered my mum plotted for months to do these things and I don’t know how a human being could do this to a fellow human being.”

In a joint statement released following the sentencing, Sadie’s family said their lives would “never be the same again” following her killing.

Thanking police investigators and the justice system, they said: “Her death has left a huge void and the last few months have been the hardest we could ever have imagined. Mum was a much loved sister, aunty and friend to many.

“She was an inspiration to everyone around her, an adventurer who lit up a room. She was perfect. There was nothing bad about her that anybody could say.

“She was a lovely, fun, trustworthy, intelligent, kind, loving woman who cared about everyone.

“She will miss our birthdays, Christmases and the many milestones we as a family will go through. Our lives will never be the same again.”

The family said the investigation, seven-week trial and subsequent media coverage had taken an enormous toll on them.

The statement added: “The evidence produced in court has been extremely difficult to listen to. We may have received some justice with the conviction and sentencing of Sarah Williams and Katrina Walsh, but it will never be enough.”

Sadie’s partner Ian Johnston said Williams and Walsh had been convicted for a “horrific and barbaric crime”.

He added: “No sentence imaginable can ever replace Sadie and everything she lived for.

“She was kind, loving, thoughtful, intelligent and the best friend anyone could have.

“The brutal, evil and cowardly attack, perpetrated against the defenceless Sadie, tore into our families, friends and the communities we live in.

“There can be no forgiveness for such vile behaviour.”
