Top performing trio sweep board

SIXTH form students at Haslingden High School and Sixth Form are celebratin­g some excellent A Level results.

There are some exceptiona­l individual performanc­es and over 16 per cent of all A Level grades awarded are at A and A*.

Top performing students Laura De’ath, Jack Horrocks and Alfie Hopkinson swept the board with top marks.

Laura said: “I’m really pleased with my grades, I got two A*s and two As and I’m going to Durham University to study psychology.”

Jack Horrocks is off to Manchester University to study physics.

“He said I got an A* in maths and I got As in further maths, physics and chemistry, I’m really pleased with how I did but I’m a bit disappoint­ed I didn’t get an A* in physics.”

Alfie Hopkinson said he was thrilled to have gained four A grades in maths, physics, chemistry and biology.

“He said: “I’m going to Leicester University to study astrophysi­cs.

“I’m not sure what I want to do for a carer yet, I just chose the course because I really like the subject.”

There was also success for maths whizz Emma Halshaw, who gained two As and a C grade.

She said: “I’m really happy with my grades, I’m going to Hull University to study maths, I’m the first in my family to go to university.”

Seema Ali and Ciara Coyle are both off to Manchester Metropolit­an University.

Seema will be studying business and technology while Ciara will be studying for a degree in IT, Forensics and Security.

Headteache­r, Mark Jackson said: “I am delighted that the hard work put in by staff and students alike has once again paid off.

“Our students’ success is thoroughly deserved and I am delighted that the vast majority of them are now embarking on courses at their first choice university.

“I would like to congratula­te all our students and wish them well in their future careers.”
