A CHARITY night at Bacup Golf Club was a roaring success, raising more than £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

More than 100 people were entertained by local piano playing duo the Lomax Brothers on the night and a number of fundraising activities took place, including a raffle.

The grand total raised was an impressive £1,500.

Organiser Christine Fitton raises money for various cancer charities after having lost family members to the disease.

She praised local businesses throughout the Valley for showing their support for the event by providing raffle prizes and vouchers for winners.

Hannah Richmond, local Macmillan fundraising manager, said: “It is always wonderful to be able to meet people like Christine who are passionate about raising money for good causes.

“We really are so grateful to her and to everyone who supported the event by attending on the night or providing prizes.

“Almost all of the money that we raise comes from fundraising and donations made voluntarily.

“The amount raised - £1,500, is a fantastic sum of money and it will help us to make a real difference.”
