-

BACUP Royal Court Theatre Group has thanked the community for their support after a successful year following the theatre’s reopening.

The group was nominated in eight categories at the Association of Community Theatre Pantomime Awards, with Michael Haworth scooping ‘Best Pantomime Dame’ for his role in last January’s pantomime ‘Beauty and the Beast’. Members have also been nominated for awards for their roles in the group’s ‘Allo Allo’ show, based on the 1980s TV series, with Jordan Barnes up for Most Accomplished Actor for his portrayal of French cafe owner Rene, Kevin Roberts nominated in the Most Original Character Portrayal category for his Lieutenant Gruber and Dawn-Marie Woodcock and Michael Haworth up for the Comedy Duo award.

Nick Daye, Theatre committee member, said: “There were times we thought the theatre would never reopen so we’re all very proud it’s back up and running, especially now we’re winning awards. We’d like to thank everyone who bought tickets for Allo Allo and our future shows. The committee are still working very hard to ensure the theatre’s successful future so everyone’s continuing support really means a lot.”

The group’s next show marks 400 years since Shakespeare’s death. Bacup’s Youth Theatre ‘Bytes’ will perform ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ on September 16 and September 17 at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Tickets are £6/£4 from bacuproyalcourttheatre. com.

The annual concert, ‘Movie Magic’, is on October 14 & 15 at 7.30pm and features songs from recent and old films.
