-

STONECLOUGH ............. 0 HAS ST MARY’S ............ 3 HASLINGDEN St Mary’s made the short journey to Stoneclough for their third match of the season.

A good all round team performance brought them a well-earned three points and their third consecutive victory.

A steady start by both sides on a good pitch saw the home side with the first meaningful effort on goal on seven minutes when St Mary’s keeper Danny Bell did well to get down low to his right to tip the ball round the post. St Mary’s settled down and started passing the ball well.

The opening goal came on 16 minutes when Scott Wylie got clear on the right, his cross was partially cleared to Sean Pearson on the edge of the box who smashed the ball into the net.

St Mary’s were now bossing the game and playing some good football, and on 33 minutes they doubled their lead when Wylie robbed a defender in the middle of the field and played the ball through the defence for Tom Hulme to run on to it and fire hard and low across the keeper.

Half time came with no further addition to the score and St Mary’s on top.

St Mary’s were in control of the second period but Stoneclough were moving the ball well, but were well marshalled by the St Mary’s defence.

St Mary’s made the game same on 77 minutes when Marcus Calvert played the ball through to Scott Wylie in the area who slipped the ball past a defender and fired into the corner to make the score 3 – 0.

The match was seen out by St Mary’s to keep their 100 per cent start to the season.
