Borough boss frustrated by ‘bad decisions’

- SHELDAN KEAY

BACUP Borough manager Brent Peters admits it’s been a frustrating start to the season for his side after they failed to win any of their opening matches.

Peters’ side lost 3-2 to City of Liverpool in their first match, before following that up with draws against Atherton LR and Carlisle City – and it’s been those draws that Peters has been disappointed with.

“To say me and my coaching staff are frustrated with the outcome of our last two games is an understatement,” he said.

“Both games followed very much in the same vein, with our biggest problem being decision making and at times forcing the ball forward rather than keeping the ball better.

“Don’t get me wrong, we have played some excellent football in spasms but when you witness first hand at training just what our lads are capable of, and then when it comes to match day they just do not reach those creditable high standards and constantly make wrong decisions when we are in good positions, which is so frustrating.

“Take the two goals we concede against Atherton.

“For their equaliser we were in control of the ball but the player in question makes a wrong decision to play a ball inside towards his goal.

“He got a bad shout in my opinion, but the lad is experienced enough to go by his own instinct and not put a ball into such an area.

“The reason against Carlisle we struggled to open them up was when it mattered we were loose with our passing.

“This results in the ball being given away and then the ball gets put back on us and our strikers are left frustrated.”

Despite being disappointed, Peters is confident that his side will start to turn things around over the coming weeks.

“Without making excuses, we as a club are notoriously slow starters, getting one point away from home and not conceding could be looked at being a very good point,” he said.

“That might be the case but only if we return home and get three points from our next game.

“Hopefully this will happen and then it will not be as frustrating.”

Bacup were set to host Silsden at the Brian Boys West View Stadium as the Free Press went to print on Wednesday.

They then have a home match on Saturday, as the team prepares to take on Ashton United.
