STUDENTS at BRGS Sixth Form are celebrating record success at A Level, after achieving the school’s best ever results at this level.
Nearly three-quarters of the grades achieved (72.3 per cent) were the top grades of A* to B with a record 44.7 per cent at A* to A. Forty-six students achieved the excellent standard of three or more passes at A/A*.
Four students will study at Oxford or Cambridge this year.

Ben Kaufman. Both students will be studying Anglo Saxon, Norse and Celtic.
In addition, at least eight BRGS students gained highly competitive places to study medicine, dentistry or veterinary science. Jenny Parker, 18, was delighted to have gained two A*’s and a B and has been accepted to Loughborough University to study psychology.
She said: “I’m so so happy, I can’t believe how well I did, I’m made up that I got on to my chosen course.” Benjamin Donaldson was also celebrating as he will be heading to Oxford to study history after also achieving two A*’s and a B. Lia Elliott, 18, will be starting the next chapter of her education at Lan-

Emma Dodd, 18 is set to follow her dream of studying astrophysics at the University of Lancaster after gaining three A grades, while Patsy

The school’s results have marked a record breaking year for A Level grades.
Alan Porteous, head- teacher at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School, said: “We are absolutely delighted with these results which are our best ever by a significant margin, seven per cent higher than our previous best.
“For a non-selective sixth form like BRGS this is a fantastic achievement.
“Credit for these results goes first to our students for their hard work and effort over the past two years, and secondly to our dedicated team of teaching staff, who have provided the outstanding teaching and support that has enabled our students to achieve so highly.
“Congratulations to all involved - we wish our students every success as they go on to their next steps.”
