EDNA PILLING

MRS Edna Pilling, of Moorhead Care Home, Accrington, died on Friday, August 26, at Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 92.

She was a weaver and then went into the boot and shoe industry. She loved going on country runs and holidays, and enjoyed reading and television soaps.

She was also a member of the Old Age Pensioners’ Group in Haslingden.

She was the wife of the late Philip and mum to Eileen and Jack, mum-inlaw to Jeff and the late Janet, nana to Darren, Tracy and Rachel, and a much-loved grandma.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, September 8, at 11.15am at Johnson, Durning and Woods’ Chapel of Rest, followed by cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m, officiated by Judith Balkwell. Family flowers only, donations welcome to St James Church, c/o Johnson Durning and Woods, 4-8 Pleasant Street, Haslingden.

GRAHAM BRACEWELL

He was employed with George Wimpey as a joiner and later as a site manager for 30 years.

He enjoyed refereeing in his younger days and was later involved with local football clubs. He played darts with local teams and enjoyed watching Burnley FC play and also cricket at Rawtenstal­l Cricket Club.

Husband of the late Joan Bracewell, he leaves two sons, Glenn and Mark, together with daughter-in-law Julie and three grandchild­ren, Tomas, Jake and Rosy.

His funeral service will take place on Wednesday, September 7, with prayers at the funeral home at 10.30am followed by cremation at Burnley Crematoriu­m at 11.20am administer­ed by Rev Philip Norris. Flowers are welcome.

ERNIE VAN DEN BERG

MR Ernie van den Berg, of Mercer Crescent, Helmshore, passed away on Thursday, August 25, aged 69.

Originally from South Africa, Ernie moved to England with his family in 1998 and resided in Helmshore.

Before retirement Ernie worked for Royal Mail. He was a keen golfer and enjoyed watching sports, particular­ly Rugby Union. He was an enthusiast­ic gardener and enjoyed DIY projects. He also enjoyed listening to music.

Ernie, much-loved husband and father, leaves his wife Marilyn and his daughters Aneliese and Selina.

His funeral service will be held at 1.45pm on Thursday, September 8, at St Thomas Church, Helmshore, administer­ed by Rev Judith Balkwell, followed by cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m at 3pm. PHILIP HANSON

MR Philip Hanson passed away on Saturday, August 27, aged 68.

When he left school he worked for G.H. Taylors before working at Ernie Platts as a salesman selling industrial clothing until he retired at 65.

He liked sports and enjoyed both playing and watching cricket when he was younger. He also played badminton, enjoyed watching football and holidays abroad.

He leaves sister Pat, brother-in-law Ken, nephews Paul and Ian and good friends Heather and Andy. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. Family flowers only please, however donations, if desired, requested to PDSA.

ANDREW DUCKWORTH

MR Andrew Duckworth – known to many as Ducky – of South Street, Haslingden died on Saturday, August 20, aged 50. He enjoyed spending time with his son, supporting Burnley FC, coaching Rawtenstal­l’s junior cricket team and travelling, living every day to its fullest. He leaves his mum, son, sister and brother-in-law, nieces and many, many friends. His funeral service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, September 7, at St James Parish Church, Haslingden, conducted by Rev Judith Balkwell, followed by burial at Haslingden Cemetery.

Flowers are welcomed with donations, if desired, requested for Rawtenstal­l junior cricket team and British Heart Foundation c/o Johnson Durning funeral directors in Haslingden.

ARTHUR TAYLOR

MR Arthur Taylor, of Bracken Grove, Helmshore, died on Thursday, August 25 at Royal Blackburn, aged 74.

Father of the late Matthew, he leaves his wife Joan, daughter Ruth, son-in-law Neil and daughter-in-law Patsy, grandchild­ren Isla, Olivia, Lewis, Pierce, Joel, and Lydia and his brother John.Originally from Halliwell Bolton, he lived in Ramsbottom before moving to Helmshore in 1973. A joiner by profession, he worked for Bryan Lee of Blackburn.

Arthur was a member of The East Lancs Railway and a keen photograph­er.

His funeral will be held at 11.45am on Tuesday, September 6 at St Thomas’ Church, Helmshore followed by committal at Accrington Crematoriu­m officiated by Rev David Allsop. Donations in memory of Arthur are for Rossendale Hospice c/o funeral director Josephine Durning for Johnson, Durning and Woods Funeral Service, Haslingden.
