Festival goers get a chance to love our earth in Ramsbottom

-

A WEEK of events to celebrate the ‘ love of parks’ finished in style with an environmental festival.

Hundreds of people flocked to the 10th anniversary of the ‘ Love Your Parks’ week at Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom run by the Friends of Nuttall Park Group to raise awareness of the importance of green spaces.

The week of community events was rounded off with a ‘ Love Earth Day’ organised by Ramsbottom Community Hub which brought the festival spirit to the park.

Pete Fillery from Ramsbottom was one of the organisers and he described it as a ‘great success’.

He said: “Love Earth stemmed from a group that I am a member of, Ramsbottom Against Fracking. And we wanted to put on an event that raised awareness on things like Fracking but do it in an inclusive way - not just to appeal to green activists. It was really about supporting Nuttall Park because they help so many different groups and we wanted to give something back.”

The event, which attracted hundreds of people across the day, was themed around the environment and community and had 30 stalls from groups and local businesses.

Pete, who is also a member of the Incredible Edible group in Ramsbottom, added: “We got in touch with lots of different people and we had everything from yoga and wellbeing sessions to craft workshops and readings from a local writers group.

“It was about getting environmental groups and businesses.

“What started off as a very small idea turned into a much bigger event.

“We’ll probably try to hold it next year because we had such great feedback. It was a really great success.” CONTACT: CHARLOTTE GREEN OFFICE: 0161 211 2469 MOBILE: 07342 080524 @CharGreenMEN charlotte.green@trinitymirror.com ●● Some of the activities (above and below) taking plave at The Love Earth festival in Nuttall Park

A COMMUNITY group has put forwards plans to improve a Ramsbottom park.

Friends of Nuttall Park are proposing the widening and resurfacing of the path around the edge of Nuttall Park.

This will enable two wheelchairs, buggies to pass without going onto the grass at the edge of the football pitches.

As part of the funding process the group are required to provide letters of support and are appealing to the public for help.

Group members ask that comments be sent by email to info@ friendsofnuttallpark. co.uk from anyone showing support for such an improvement.
