Thommo does Daisy damage

NW COUNTIES DIVISION ONE DAISY HILL ...................... 1 BACUP BOROUGH ........... 2 SHELDAN KEAY

BACUP made it back to back league wins in the space of 48 hours after a victory at Daisy Hill on Monday.

Brent Peters’ side started in confident mood which saw them win the first corner of the game, but Ben Boyne’s header was cleared off the line by a Daisy Hill defender.

Daisy Hill began to dictate play from that point onwards and they managed to take the lead after ●● Brent Peters a good move. Alex McPolin made a deep blind side run to get onto the end of a through ball which evaded three Bacup players. His timing was good and his clinical finish was even better to make it 1-0.

They weren’t ahead for long though as on 38 minutes the score was all square when Bacup equalised.

Stuart Craig chased the ball down after good work from Kyle Hendley, before pulling the ball back into the path of Ben Boyne who fired past Craig Haynes to make it all square at the interval.

At the start of the second half, Bacup were forced into a substitution when goal scorer Boyne suffered a reoccurrence of a back injury, with Ashley Leather coming on in his place.

Leather made an immediate impact, as he instantly began torment- ing the Daisy Hill defence with some excellent footwork before getting a shot off which hit the woodwork.

After another good move where Thompson’s effort hit the side netting, Bacup had to defend when defender Davison Banda gave away a free kick in a dangerous area just outside the penalty area.

Thankfully, Bacup goalkeeper Aaron Ashley was equal to the free kick and produced an excellent save to deny the opposition.

Peters’ men went on the attack again as they tried to find a winner, and they thought they should have had a penalty when Anthony Hall appeared to be fouled in the box.

The referee disagreed though, waving away the protests much to the annoyance of the Bacup players.

It looked like the two teams would have to settle for a point when the game entered the final stages, but Bacup struck after 85 minutes to take the lead for the first time in the match.

Captain Kelvin Trippier played in Jonathan Thompson, who did the rest by producing an exquisite finish to make it 2-1.
