AWOMAN has hit out at the state of the borough’s roads after claiming her two-day-old sports car sustained hundreds of pounds worth of damage due to stone chips.

Mum-of-three Georgina Earle, of Newchurch Road, Rawtenstall, was thrilled when she bought herself a new Porsche Boxster in March.

However, Georgina, 46, who runs a debt advice business in Bury, was horrified when she discovered two chips in the paintwork on the front bumper just two days later.

She claims the damage was caused by stone chips on Manchester Road, between Rawtenstall and Edenfield, and contacted the contractors who had resurfaced the route.

She claimed: “I knew exactly where the damage had occurred, as the stone chips were very bad around that spot.

“Following the damage I saw a Facebook post from Jake Berry MP and how contractors were repairing any damaged vehicles due to the state of the roads they had repaired the previous winter, as the council had been indemnified against any claims.”

She provided photographs of the chips on her car and a quote for repairs from a garage for £380, but was told that her claim was rejected, as she was unable to prove exactly where the damage had happened.

Georgina then took her complaint to Lancashire County Council and explained the problem, but felt she drew a blank there too.

She claims it took the highways department several weeks to respond and, when a response arrived, it simply said that the issue would be investigated, and then re-iterated that her claim had been rejected, with the only advice being to submit a new claim.

Georgina said: “I cringe driving along the roads in Rossendale.

“It isn’t fair that anyone ADVERTISING FEATURE should have damage to their vehicle through no fault of their own.

“I have to work really hard for the few nice things I have and this has totally spoilt something I had saved for and looked forward to owning.”

A spokesperson for Lancashire County Council said: “Contractors are responsible for claims made against them in respect of any work they carry out on the highway.” ●● Georgina Earle with her damaged Porsche
