ROSSENDALE PROBUS CLUB
ONE of Rossendale Probus Club’s social events took place on Friday, September 23.
About twenty members and guests travelled from Rawtenstall to Bury on the East Lancashire Railway.
At Bury we boarded a restaurant car on the railway and had lunch during a return journey to Rawtenstall.
Our interesting train journeys were hauled by steam engine.
The Rossendale Valley looked great in the sunshine and the meal was also very good.
Wednesday, September 28 was one of our regular meetings to hear a talk.
Captain Roger Llewellyn showed two seafaring videos.
The first was from a trans-Atlantic voyage in the 1960s by a Manchester liner with some very unpleasant sea conditions.
The second was generally in much calmer conditions from a voyage in the Far East on an 8000 TEU container ship of which he was captain at the time.
Members found the videos fascinating and insisted on seeing them right to the end.
The club’s AGM will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 10.30am.
The next general meeting of the club will be on Wednesday, October 26 when David Brayshaw will give a talk on ‘Behind the Scenes’.
It will be at Ashday Lea Masonic Hall in Rawtenstall starting at 10.30am, preceded by coffee from 10am.
