Talent show winner George’s teacher inspires street dancers

A STREET dance teacher who taught Britain’s Got Talent winner George Sampson is now working with other young hopefuls at Bacup’s Dansworks Dance Academy.

Craig Kemp, 39, teaches at the academy, in the Pioneer Buildings on Rochdale Road, where he hones the skills of the street dancers.

He has been dancing since the age of 18, originally as a break dancer before moving on to teach and choreograph different styles.

Craig said he teaches beginners, junior, teens and team street dance at Dansworks.

He added: “I am there to inspire the dancers and in the short time I have been at Bacup I have already seen some who have potential.”

Craig was one of four teachers who trained Warrington’s George Sampson from the age of eight. George won Britain’s Got Talent in 2008 aged 14 and in 2012, Craig went with him when he appeared in China’s Got Talent to perfect his routines and choreograph the Chinese dancers.

He said: “China was amazingly different, the skyscrapers were so high and the nightlife was good. However for most of the time we were working and rehearsing.

“George and the winner of China’s Got Talent performed a duet and I choreographed it. Hopefully my experience will help inspire the dancers I’m working with to see where they can go in this profession and what can happen if they put the time and effort into rehearsals. I hope to do my best and help street dancers from Dansworks continue to win competitions at regional and national level.”
