Boro cup blow

- SHELDAN KEAY

BACUP Borough manager Brent Peters admits his side’s cup defeat to Chadderton on Saturday was a huge disappointment.

Peters’ men suffered a 2-1 defeat after extra time, and the Bacup boss was frustrated to come up short.

“I felt over the course of 120 minutes we dominated the game for 100 of those minutes,” he said.

“In the first 45 minutes we were constantly getting in behind Chadderton with Ashley Leather proving too much for them, but a mixture of bad decision making with our final ball and weak efforts on their goal let us down.

“Credit to Chadderton for the way they started after half-time as during this period we were without doubt second best in our midfield area.

“We should never be outnumbered in midfield but when they equalised we were just that. Chadderton scored two goals, both coming from the same midfield player, so that says it all and to be honest that is just not acceptable.

“If we want to achieve our goals this season then every player in every game must carry out their responsibilities to the letter.

“If they do, then with the quality we possess we will achieve those goals, but if players underachieve then sadly despite our dominance in games, results like this will happen.

“Good luck to Chadderton, they withstood a lot of pressure from us, and there was some good play by them.

“There were some bad decisions from us though, and they scored their equaliser when they were on top in midfield.

“Samuel Gibson must be credited for his two goals, but without taking anything away from Samuel, when he scored their winning goal he had at least three of our players around him.

“Our players seemed to make little effort to win the ball, so that in itself was a huge disappointment and certainly not the way to lose a game of football and with it go out of the cup.”

Bacup hope to return to winning ways when they face Sandbach United at home on Saturday.
