Peters’ pride in battling Bacup

BACUP Borough manager Brent Peters insists he was proud of his players despite their 3-2 loss at Runcorn Town in the Macron Cup.

Peters’ men were narrowly beaten in the game to lose their place in the cup, and he was devastated for the team after the way they performed.

“I was absolutely gutted for the boys. After what they collectively contrib- uted in this game they certainly did not deserve to be on the losing side,” he said.

“I was proud of each and every one of them against a good strong Runcorn side, and if we can take this attitude and commitment into our league games we will soon be right back on track.

“The cup draws have not at all been kind to us this season having been drawn against four North West Counties Premier League sides.

“Three of those games were away, but we only lost to them all by the odd goal, Congleton being the exception in extra time after drawing 3-3 at full time.

“It was important we were resolute and concentrated throughout, and it was equally important the boys worked hard and stuck fully to the game plan, and they did that to almost perfection.

“The system we adopted is very regimented and does require every player to be committed and concentrated throughout.

“The fact we had a bunch of honest lads going into this game with no egos or hidden agendas is what made the system work.

“Cynics will say ‘yes but you lost the game,’, but let me tell those cynics, it was fine margins. There was nothing negative about our approach.

“We were positive and scored two well taken goals by Johnathan Thompson and Ryan Alessandra, and were leading for long periods of the first half.”

Peters admitted they should have done better to deal with the goals that they conceded.

“The two goals we conceded right on half time really could have been avoided, the first goal we tried to pinch when the ball was not there to be pinched, then the second goal we invited the pressure by going forward,” ●● Ryan Alessandra
