AN angry woman bit her partner and threw a ‘scalding’ cup of tea over his chest when he tried to break up with her for the 23rd time, a court heard.

Sarah Marcroft, from Haslingden, ‘lost her temper’ when she saw the victim had packed his bags and started to shout at him and throw his belongings out of the house.

The 40-year-old then threw a newly brewed cup of tea at him before ‘jumping on his back’ and biting him on the top of the head and back of the neck.

At Burnley Crown Court, Marcroft, of Blackburn Road, pleaded guilty to ABH and a Bail Act offence and was given a 12-month community order with a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement and a two-month curfew.

Paul Brookwell, prosecuting, said the incident happened at around 1pm on June 19 this year. The court heard how Marcroft and the victim had been in a ‘volatile’ relationship for over five years and that he had previously ‘moved out of their accommodation about 22 times’.

Mr Brookwell said Marcroft had taken amphetamines the previous night and ‘kept him up into the early hours’.

He told the court: “It came to a point because of that he decided to leave. He packed up his bags and rang a friend for a lift.

“He woke up about 12pm and made the call. She got up at 1pm and realised he was leaving because she could see he had packed his bags.

“She lost her temper, threw his bags around, threw his X-Box and suitcase out of the house, and was shouting at him to get out of the house.”

Mr Brookwell said Marcroft then threw a cup of ‘scalding hot’ tea across the victim’s chest which caused burning and blis- ters before jumping on him and biting him.

Marcroft, who runs car boot sales, was previously given a caution for battery in 2014 against the same victim after she threw an ashtray at him.

Anthony Parkinson, defending, said Marcroft suffers with insomnia following a road traffic accident when she was 15 and has some ‘strange sleeping patterns’. He told the court how she is looking to move out of the area to Hapton in the near future.
