HUNDREDS PAID RESPECTS

-

I WOULD like to thank the people of Ramsbottom for their support in turning out in their hundreds to line the streets of the town during the annual Ramsbottom Remembrance Day Parade on Sunday, November 13.

The Royal British Legion standard bearers were accompanied by a lone piper and representatives from local cadets of the Army, Navy and Airforce, along with members of Ramsbottom Royal British Legion, local police, fire and ambulance services. Also in attendance were large numbers of the local Scouting movement.

The parade marched from Ramsbottom Royal British Legion Club through the streets of Ramsbottom to the Cenotaph outside St Paul’s Church on Bridge Street, where they were met by the many hundreds of local people who had lined the streets and the church gardens.

After the last post, played by the bugler and the lowering of the standards, a wreath laying ceremony took place. Branch Chairman, Mr Colin Grundy read the exhortation and kohima, with the Reverend Andrew Lindop saying prayers.

Rev Lindop then went on to officiate the annual Remembrance Day service inside St Paul’s Church.

After the service, the parade reformed and made its way back to Ramsbottom Royal British Legion, where parade marshal Mr Peter Evans dismissed the parade after thanks were given from the dignitaries attending.

The standard bearers and escorts then went on to attend the annual Remembrance Day parade and service at Voith Fabrics at Stubbins, formerly Porritts Mill, where a short service took place to remember those mill employees who died in the two world wars and who are remembered on a war memorial in the mill grounds.

Ramsbottom Royal British Legion would like to thank all the people of Ramsbottom and surrounding areas who took time to support this year’s Remembrance Day parade. Gary Pemberton Branch Secretary Ramsbottom Royal British Legion
