Biker hurt in road collision

A MAN has been hospitalis­ed with internal injuries and a broken shoulder after the scramble bike he was riding was in a collision with a van.

Emergency services were called to Burnley Road East in Whitewell Bottom at around 12.45pm on Sunday, November 27.

Police said a Ford Transit was turning onto the opposite side of the road near to the junction with Brock Clough Road when it was in a collision with a Beta Orange Enduro 300 motorcycle being driven by a 26-year-old local man.

An air ambulance helicopter landed at Whitewell Bottom Community Centre and he was taken to Royal Preston Hospital to be treated for internal injuries and a broken shoulder.

Police said his condition is not ‘life-threatenin­g’ and have launched an appeal for informatio­n.

The North West Air Ambulance said: “A man in his 20s with suspected shoulder and chest injuries was airlifted to the Royal Preston Hospital.”

Burnley Road East was closed by police for nearly two hours for accident investigat­ion work and affected traffic in the Bacup and Rawtenstal­l areas.

No arrests have been made.

Sgt Lee Campbell, from the Road Policing Unit, said: “We need anyone who may have seen either vehicle in the lead up to this incident or who might have witnessed the collision itself to come forward and speak to us.”
