Hulme hits four in romp at St Mary’s

-

WEST LANCS LEAGUE DIVISION ONE HAS ST MARY’S ............ 8 ULVERSTON R................ 0 STEVE BAYES AFTER two postponements Haslingden St Mary’s returned to action with an eight-goal romp against bottom side GSK Ulverston Rangers.

An unusual slow start to the match from St Mary’s as they took their time settling down into the match, but the deadlock was broken on 21 minutes when a Scott Wylie corner was headed goalwards by Dave Snape, the ball seemed to be going in but Tom Hulme made sure from point blank range.

Further chances fell to St Mary’s that weren’t taken but two Wylie goals in a minute appeared to kill off Ulverston, firstly a great finish when the striker picked up the ball on the edge of the area and curled the ball into the top corner, and within a minute Wylie beat the advancing keeper to fire home.

As half time approached another two quick strikes made it 5-0 at the break, Alex White latched onto a loose ball on the edge of the box on 42 minutes and smashed the ball into the corner of the net.

And two minutes later a long ball was headed on into the path of Hulme, who took the ball in his stride and fired home.

Ulverston started brightly in the second half but the stuffing was knocked out of them when on 62 minutes Hulme pulled the ball back to the edge of the box where White’s smart first time finish made it 6-0. Five minutes later it was seven as the unselfish Wylie in the area laid the ball square to Hulme for an easy finish to complete his hat-trick.

Right on full time Bradbury crossed from the right to Hulme who turned in the six yard box and fired home for his fourth goal to complete the scoring.

St Mary’s remain in fourth place with only three points separating the top four.

They are level on points with third-place CMB, and have games in hand on the top two.

On Saturday St Mary’s are at home to Hawcoat Park.

St Mary’s reserves are in fourth place in Division Three after a good 2-0 away win over fifth place Croston Sports Reserves, with goals from Ben Greenwood and Ryan Sidall.
