ROSSENDALE Scribbler: It takes longer to get to city at rush hour than half a century ago (website and Free Press, December 16)

Emma Farrow: If they want to build more houses, new shops and make Rossendale a place people want to live then putting a link in is a no brainer! A commuter service Monday to Friday and a heritage line by weekend. If we can put a man on the moon we can make this work ! Paul Lambert: Commuter service will never happen. Emma Farrow: Well I have to beg to differ, more build requires more infrastructure. They will have to do something soon. Keith Knowles: Not much good to the valley folk as most users will be out of towners parking up to use the train. Paul Roberts: Can you see Bury Council agreeing to lose a valuable tourist attraction so the people of Rossendale can have a commuter service? They already have Metrolink running to Manchester. Chris Reid: If the people demand it the politicians will make things happen. Rossendale was designated a dormitory overspill for Manchester in the late 70s. Mandy Willman: My daughter regularly goes to Piccadilly Station and it is a nightmare. The roads are busy whichever way you go and trying to get to Rochdale for the train/ tram takes forever. Kimberley Butterworth: As someone who has worked and gone to college in both Manchester and Bolton, a train link would be amazing. You can’t even get directly to these places without going 20-30 mins to Rawtenstall then another 50-60 mins to Bolton or Manchester and that’s without traffic. The education and work opportunities are far better than locally and to a better standard.

INCREASE in waste wagons through Valley approved despite objections (website and Observer Dec 16)

Hilary Fairclough: They have not listened to the objections, there were some good points made regarding the smell these wagons leave going through the Valley. We all understand it’s a job that needs doing and involves people’s jobs, that’s not in question. Why didn’t they make them use closed trailers instead of just tarpaulins on the wagons? This would have contained the smell. At least it would have shown some consideration for the Rossendale residents who have to put up with it. Andrea Nangle: What a joke, the roads just cannot cope with heavy wagons as it is now. Todmorden Road is a disgrace, my 4x4 bounces all over the place. Graham Wright: How can it be that Calderdale Council have a say on traffic in Rossendale? Something wrong there which Rossendale BC MUST look at. Sue Dempsey: Why do they have to come through Bacup when it’s Calderdale??? Where do they come from? Denise Hooley: What will happen when they change to the new layout of roundabouts and zebra crossings. This will not be good for Bacup, accident waiting to happen. David Halshaw: The problem is the height restriction on the bridge at Cliviger. They have to send over height vehicles via Bacup!
