Bacup down in the dumps after late loss

-

SHELDAN KEAY BACUP Borough manager Brent Peters admits that his side have been left demoralised after their cruel 3-2 home loss to Cheadle Town.

Peters’ men led 2-1 heading into stoppage time, but conceded two late goals to suffer defeat in the match.

The Bacup boss was disappointed with the loss, and admits that his team were left down in the dumps afterwards.

“I am really gutted for the boys. This was a terrible way to lose a football match.

“It is never easy to take when you lose a game of football, but given the fact the boys worked really hard in the second half to turn things around, to end up losing in the cruel manner we did was really hard and demoralising to take for all,” Peters said.

“Did we deserve to win the game? No we did not given we were second best to Cheadle in the first 45 minutes, but we certainly did not deserve to lose the game for the way we worked in the second half.

“We were well in control, then fate played a cruel part in the match outcome turning out how it did. Their equaliser was from a simple back heel that went in behind our defensive wall, allowing their man to latch on and score.

“We then lost the game because our goalkeeper, who has been different class since joining us, made a rare error of judgement by attempting to come for a high ball.

“He quickly realised he was not going to make it so he started to drop back to his line. He then hit a divot and slipped while the ball is agonisingly trickling to the line, leaving us all helpless in preventing it crossing the line.

“There is no blame whatsoever on Aaron, as he has been different class.

“There would have been no error of judgement had he not have slipped, as he would easily have recovered.

“Slipping is an accident and accidents happen in all walks of life, so on this note, we lost this game due to an accident where my excellent goalkeeper could not recover.

“It was and still is a bitter pill to swallow, but we now move onto our next game and put this fatal situation behind us.”

Up next for Bacup is a trip to Silsden on Boxing Day.
