NEW McDonald’s in Rawtenstall ‘will open by May’ (Free Press March 3 and website) Jools Richardson: So we get a McDonald’s, but we can’t secure a deal with the ELR to share the line, giving commuters a direct link into Manchester, alleviating travel times, stress, pollution, but we have a ‘restaurant’ placed on a roundabout. Why is the regeneration of our town not sympathetic? Jamie Stevens: Trains to Manchester would be an absolute winner, mate, spot on! Andy Buttery: At least a piece of wasteland is being used and 75 jobs created. Would imagine some businesses nearby will benefit too indirectly. Samantha Harrison: All I’m gonna say is I’m very disappointed in the council for this happening! You will learn one day. Accidents will happen. And I’m for one not going to enjoy the new hang out for the youth. And before anyone says anything. I live directly across from this new eyesore! Keely Law: I for one am happy about this! Love a McDonalds and not having to drive to Burnley for one is a win in my book!

Good change from Indian food which we seem to have in abundance up here! Carl Stephen Russell: KFC would be by far better than McDonald’s. Why have two McDonald’s so close? Alfie Butterworth: People complain about McDonald’s being junk food. Real meat and chicken, free range eggs, MILKshakes, fruit bags. Jan Dodgeon: You already need to be pretty nippy to get onto the one-way system in between the traffic lights from Bocholt Way / St Mary’s Way, and it’s not likely to be any easier with the increased traffic backing up. Annette Davidson: Great, even more traffic on a very busy Roundabout how safe is that! Sheila Mansley: Well you will not see me in that place or Aldi. I can not understand planning, the town is being split in two and even more rubbish for Civic Pride to remove! Disgusting! Jools Richardson: I hope they help fund Civic Pride. Yasmin Hood: It’s going to cheapen Rawtenstall... plus side McDonald’s down the road. Jason Boyle: So the gateway to Rawtenstall is a McDonald’s. Classy. Is it 24 hours....? Sarah Talbot: Yessss. I can’t wait, I love a cheeky cheeseburger and a hot chocolate. Damian Jennison: Yey! More traffic on what is already a bonkers road layout. At least Rising Bridge will be a bit quieter with less litter. Oliver Cooper: I don’t think McDonald’s at Rising Bridge is too far away! Would much prefer a KFC. Gail Elsworth: Can’t wait it’s about time the Valley got out of the dark ages.

PUPILS at St James CE upset as vandals smash up play area installed by veterans (Free Press March 3 and website) Vanessa Crook: Why would people do this?

Why can’t they just leave things alone? Jan Dodgeon: What is WRONG with these people?!

Put the vandals and the veterans together for a week, that’ll fix it. Christine Saxton: Find them all then put them with the youngsters who’ve had their new project ruined by mindless oiks.....result!! Stuart Oliver: If they are found, make them work and rebuilt it and stop treating them with kid gloves.

Little runts.
