Rams face tests after sorry seven

- RYAN DOBNEY

RAMS BOTTOM United will be looking for a swift return to winning ways following a humiliating 7-0 loss at Farsley on Tuesday.

The Rams have two tough games in the space of four days against Brighouse – who they beat 2-0 last month – and Hyde and manager Mark Fell knows his side face a tough test.

“I thought the last game against Brighouse we were fairly comfortable, however we know it will be a different game when we go there. We are coming into a really important time in the season for us and consistency is definitely something we need to keep up. The Hyde game means a lot to the supporters, but I am looking ahead to beat a team that is one of the most inform sides in the league, they are a good outfit with some good players.”

While the midweek defeat at Farsley was a setback, Fell paid tribute to his players after Saturday’s hard fought 1-0 away win at Tadcaster.

The win came after Lee Gaskell converted a tenth minute penalty and the Rams boss could not be happier to have regained the services of the club’s second all-time top goal scorer.

“There were very few chances in the game, and you could say we were fortunate to find ourselves in front,” he said.

“Both sides struggled to adapt to the conditions, the pitch was a bit bobbly and it took the players sometime to get used to.

“Darryl Mason got inbehind and that was one of the few times we managed to stretch them, he was clearly fouled and Lee Gaskell on his return to the club delivered from the penalty spot.

“It was a bit of a smash and grab I suppose.”

Having already scored 113 goals in his first spell, it was almost a foregone conclusion that Lee Gaskell would score on his second homecoming, but Fell was quick to point out what else he can bring to his side.

“He is a character to have in the team and around the dressing room and it goes without saying the quality he possesses. A big thing for me is he has been there and done it with the club having already enjoyed play-off success.

“We have got a bit of everything for him here now, and it is great to have him around.”
