Tennis youngsters serve up place at sport games
PUPILS from Helmshore Primary School are celebrating after clinching a place at the largest youth sporting event in Lancashire, following victory in a mini tennis competition.
Organised by the Lancashire Sport Partnership, the SPAR Lancashire School Games provide competitive sporting opportunities for all pupils across the county.
And youngsters from Helmshore Primary School have booked their place following victory in a mini tennis competition.
Year four pupils Connie Masser, Daniel Clements, Jack Stubbs and Kate Holt struck glory after beating St Paul’s Primary School in an exciting final match, after overcoming competition from Thorn Primary School and Balladen Community Primary School, who finished third and fourth respectively.
They will now represent Rossendale at the county finals where they will compete against teams from 14 Lancashire districts in a bid to be crowned county champions in mini tennis.
Nathan Bibby, who is the school games organiser for Rossendale and arranged the event, congratulated the players.
He said: “Mini tennis is always a popular fixture within the school games calendar and this event didn’t disappoint, with all teams putting on a fantastic display and Helmshore coming out on top.”
A range of sports including gymnastics, football and athletics, as well as two new additions to the 2017 line-up, mixed cricket and touch rugby, will be contested by pupils from 15 Lancashire districts.
In addition, the Disability Swimming Gala will take place on March 15 at Lancaster’s Salt Ayre Leisure Centre.
