MR Derek Howarth, of Herbert Street, Bacup, died at home peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, March 16, aged 93.

At the age of 17, Derek served five and a half years in the services.

He was a retired postman, after 25 years of service in Bacup.

He enjoyed holidays in Morecambe with family and was a keen dancer with wife Rita.

He enjoyed snooker with best pal Tommy and Don. He enjoyed cricket and football, but most of all he enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren.

Derek was a member of Rosemount Working Men’s Club and Cloughfold Con Club.

Derek leaves beloved wife Rita, three stepchildr­en and he was the stepfather of the late Barry Fletcher, he leaves one brother, five sistersin-law, seven grandchild­ren, nine great-grandchild­ren, nephews and nieces.

Prayers, led by the Rev Philip Norris, will be held on Tuesday, March 28, at the funeral home, Knight and Boys, Stackstead­s at 1.30pm, followed by his cremation at Burnley Crematoriu­m at 2.20pm.

Family flowers only with donations to Rossendale Hospice.

BETTY Philipson, of Laird Street, Rawtenstal­l, died MR Robert Peter White, of Oaklands Drive, Rawtenstal­l, died on Tuesday, March 7, aged 67.

He was an accounts manager at Solomon Commercial­s.

Robert enjoyed photograph­y, music, walking, charitable work (homeless, youth groups, MRS Doris Riley, of St Mary’s Place, Rawtenstal­l, died on Sunday, March 19, aged 94. It was her birthday. Doris was a machinist at British quilting company Bury Masco when she was younger, then became a housewife when she had children.

When she was younger she enjoyed sewing and knitting.

She was a lifelong member of Sion Baptist Church and president of the Ladies’ Guild for 25 years. She was also an officer in the Girls Brigade.

Wife of the late George, she was mother of Andrea, Vivian and Adrian, grandmothe­r to nine and greatgrand­mother to nine.

Prayers at the Chapel of Rest on James Street will be held on Friday, March 31 at 1.30pm followed by cremation at Burnley Crematoriu­m at 2.20pm.

A Thanksgivi­ng service will be held at Sion Baptist Church at 3.30pm MRS Joan Lyth, of Broadway, Helmshore, died on Tuesday, March 14 at Royal Blackburn, aged 91.

Wife of the late Gordon, she leaves her children Sandra, Kevin, Ian, Yvonne, Steven, and Melvyn, son and daughters-in-law,
