HASLINGDEN High axes two subjects after £250,000 funding cut (website and Free Press March 24)

Chris Farnworth: I think they should cut the MP’s wages see how they like it. Never mind cutting costs on the children’s education. In ten years time there will be more kids leaving school and going on the dole then ever before. MP’s don’t care anymore. Colin Treeman: Hey, the Tories have to fund tax cuts for their rich friends one way or another, and a dumbed down population is easier to govern.

Jake Ford: It’s not like these subjects are even on offer at most schools at GCSE level – big deal over nothing. Funding cuts are bad enough but supporting core subjects is the most important thing. Options can be taken at A-Level in these two subject areas without prior experience.

Nathan McLean: Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, schools are having to make more and more financial decisions, and I suspect that this will just be a taste of things to come. I believe that over the coming years, at primary schools, you will see an increase in the number of teaching support assistants, and a fall in the number of teachers, which will ultimately save schools money. The sad thing is that as people are paying more and more taxes, you wouldn’t expect services to be cut, and you would expect schools to receive proper funding as the children of today are the future of our country. Samantha Harrison: My daughter is currently doing both these subjects at Haslingden High. She’s achieving top marks in both! Will be such a shame seeing these go! I’d much rather the compulsory RE and ICT course were taken off the options.

Keeley Love: Get rid of religious studies, unless you want to be a vicar it’s of no use whatsoever. At least with the lessons that are to be dropped you can gain a career out of them. Lisa Michelle Bloor: It’s time the government U-turned on these cuts and stopped freezing funding to our schools which is just another way of cutting without looking like they are doing it. At the end of the day if we do not give our children the best start in life we are indeed setting them up to fail. I have a lot of respect for people that are honest and say when things are not right and Mr Jackson was right to send the letter to parents. It’s pointless sticking our heads in the sand and pretending that cuts will not effect what’s happening in our schools or our children’s education.

Chris Daniel: And yet people keep voting for more of the same...

Zulf Ali: Well they did say we are all in it together except for Tories obviously. Still plenty of money for Trident and Brexit. Storme Rebanks: Oh my god that will not go down well.

Billy Hanson: This government has no shame at all, to cut school funding is another example of a don’t care government. Yet they will tell you that a child’s education is one of their top priorities. Christine Saxton: What sort of education is this? Karen Simpson: Absolutely scandalous. Steve Chappell: Country’s going backwards. Bacup’s £2m redevelopment fall victim to lead thieves (website and Free Press March 24)

Andy Darcy: This is probably why Bacup hasn’t had help in the past. Used to be a hub years ago. Now as soon as people try to get it up and back on the map the smack rats steal everything. Billy Hanson: Think it’s about time the courts started handing out harsher sentences instead of giving them a free hand to do as these clowns want. Tony Winder: They have to be arrested and charged first. Billy Hanson: Even when they catch them

they are still too soft with them.

Sue Dempsey: We really need the CCTV cameras turning back on in Bacup!!! Jason Tong: In Bacup? Surely not!

PUB hosts impromptu headshave for brain tumour boy Kenton Ritson, 5 (website and Free Press March 24) Lynsey Eccles: Awe that’s lovely. I wish him all the luck in the world, lots of prayers for him xx Mark Taylor: Used to be my dad’s local as we only lived down the road. Michelle-Zoe StampWoodward: How lovely. Abimbola Ekanoye: Beautiful and emotional.
