COUNCIL chiefs say they are hopeful for a fresh start following the sale of Bacup Hub (website).

Andrew Knights: Let’s hope it get flattened and a 3G floodlight pitch gets put on with other facilities so the kids of Bacup can play in their own town instead of going all over the place! Shayne Johnson-Ord: Brilliant idea

Nathan McLean: I have to admire her, and the Free Press for making the comment, and publishing it..........“Bacup is the forgotten town and lacks any support from the council to provide services for the people”. Personally, I have to wholeheartedly agree with that comment, and I see the council providing very little for the town, yet Rawtenstall appears to get it all! Why can’t the council do more to share out its funding and give some proper facilities to Bacup? In terms of this site, the only thing I can see it being used for is additional housing - just look at how many homes are on the adjacent site, and that gives you an idea how many could be built on this site.

KINGS Paints couple Greg and Linda King to retire after 35 years. The Cloughfold shop, known for its iconic King Richard sign, will close at the end of April (website) Michelle Shelly Lord: What a shame, I’ve used this shop since moving to the area 12 years ago Nigel Scholes Harper: Well earned retirement, shame none the less a great shop. Andy Stott: Did my work experience there! Sally Ashworth: Rossendale won’t be the same without them! Garry Andre Agus: Happy Retirement to you both , Great service , Catherine Louise Chadwick: Happy retirement Greg xx

RAMSBOTTOM Chocolate Festival attracts 30 THOUSAND people (website)

Kristian Schofield: Well done Ramsbottom, a town really thriving! I wish Rawtenstall would take a similar approach instead of selling out to the supermarkets and multinational junk food!

Clare Winder: I love good chocolate and it was my first time at the event, I was thought it was going to be much better, larger and the chance to pick up something a bit different. The chocolate samosas were lovely, I’d buy those again. I did feel sorry for the owls and hawks who had been placed nest to a loud fairground ride.

Come on Rawtenstall, can we just do a decent food event?

Susan Barber: Was it really better for crowding this year? It was so unpleasant being squashed in last year and so hard to get to most of the stalls that we gave it a miss this time.

Dale Cryer: It was really busy, in fact you could say it was choc a block.

HOUSEHOLDER chases burglars after finding them in his kitchen (website)

Helen Skeels: How about blaming the parents for their off springs lack of morals etc., instead of it always being the police or the government’s fault! Stop using the police as scape goats for everything people do, put the blame in the right place.... with the parents! Christine Stevenson: You know who to blame for that Teresa May. For shortage of police on the beat and elsewhere. Let’s face it she gave them all a helping hand when she cut the number of police to the point you’re lucky if you ever see one on the beat anymore. When they were on the beat they served as a deterrent to most people, except for the above mentioned. Oliver Henry Coop: You realise the country is in debt right? Steven Smith: Hope they find them soon . About time the police walked the area . John Williams: There aren’t enough police to do this sad to say.

Steven Smith: Why are there no more special constables anymore?
