Apology over quick fix potholes
ROADS bosses have said sorry to motorists following a furore over quick fix pothole repairs.
Angry readers contacted us over two sites which have seen repairs carried out by Lancashire County Council (LCC).
Garry Agus was critical of works on Gladstone Street in Bacup.
He said: “There was no attempt to square-off the potholes. There was no bonding put around the side of the potholes. Two men and a wagon plus the cost of tarmac, why is there no inspector keeping an eye on jobs like this?”
Drivers on Bury Road, Rawtenstall were also unimpressed by repairs close to the rail station.
LCC said a full resurface of both roads will take place later in the year.
A spokesperson said: “We’re sorry that Gladstone Street is currently in a poor condition, however a permanent repair scheme has been agreed, and we are planning to fully resurface it this summer.
“In the meantime, we will make temporary repairs to any potholes which appear to ensure the surface is safe.
“Our usual approach is to make a good-quality permanent repair to potholes on the first visit, however sometimes the condition of the road means we can only make a temporary repair at first.
“Bury Road in Rawtenstall will be fully resurfaced in August this year.
“The road has deteriorated and has become quite badly damaged, so we’ve filled-in the potholes to ensure it is safe to use in the meantime, until these improvements are made.”
