Ellen’s palatial home is worth chatting about

-

LLEN DEGENERES started out as a comedian and actor, starring in her eponymous hit sitcom and movies such as ED TV and Finding Nemo, before becoming a queen of the TV talk show hosts. So perhaps we shouldn’t have been surprised when she revealed in 2011 that she is related to the Duchess of Cambridge through a common ancestor, Thomas Fairfax, whose

home was Gillingham Castle. Regal homes are clearly in the blood. In 2013 Ellen and her wife Portia de Rossi bought a huge Italianate house in the hills above Santa Barbara in California, which was later featured heavily in Ellen’s book, Home. Known as The Villa it was designed and built by architect Wallace Frost. Ellen has expanded and modernised the property which now has six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, nine fireplaces, multiple libraries, a marble-topped chef’s kitchen and several formal rooms.

Ellen and Portia also added a lap pool and tennis court. Agent Suzanne Perkins of Sotheby’s International Realty is selling it for $45 million.
