YOUR ACTOR

-

Name: Sam Cooper. Hometown: Born in Bolton, but now live in Ramsbottom. Job: Kitchen and bedroom designer. Which theatre company are you involved with?: I’ve been with Summerseat Players for around five years now. Have you taken part in any productions recently?: I have. I was in the ‘Shape of Things’ by Neil LaBute. Who was your character in the play?: I played the nervous, geeky and self-conscious Adam. What did you like/ dislike about the character?: I like the transition of Adam. His journey he takes through- out the play is good to watch and a real challenge to take on. I try not to dislike the character I’m playing and always try to justify their actions, be it positive or negative. What do you most enjoy?: I’m really enjoying directing at the moment. I have directed two plays so far and will be opening Summerseat’s 50th year by directing Blithe Spirit. However, walking on that stage will always be my greatest love. Have you been in any other productions?: My last production before ‘The Shape of Things’ was R.C. Sherriff’s Journeys End, which was for me one of the most enjoyable things I have been a part of. Who is your favourite actor and why?: Good question. I think it will have to be Marlon Brando, simply because he took acting to a whole new level when he first came onto the scene. Al Pacino comes a close second and Tom Hardy third. If you could play any part what would it be and why?: It would have to be Biff Loman. ‘Death of a Salesman’ is in my opinion the greatest play ever written and that part is one I’ve always wanted to play. Maybe one day. Are you involved in any other projects at the moment?: I’m also working on ‘Private Fears in Public Places’ by Alan Ayckbourn, and that is with the Phoenix Theatre company Bolton. What do you most enjoy about doing this?: The social side of it is fantastic. I’ve made so many great friends over the years. Also, getting the chance to portray an iconic character, Captain Stanhope for instance, is a real privilege. Any memorable/funny moments or highlights from this?: The whole rehearsal period has been a fun experience. Lee Ward has been a fantastic director and I’ve loved working with him and the rest of the cast.
