Mixed results as Boro play catch-up

-

BACUP Borough had a busy week prior to their final game after three games in quick succession.

It began with a home match against AFC Blackpool, with Bacup running out dominant 4-0 winners.

It was one of their best scoring performances of the season, with two goals coming from the ever impressive midfield player James Constantine, while Alexander Nwachukwu and captain Adrian Bellamy also got in on the act.

While Bacup scored four goals, it could and really should have been more, given all season Bacup Borough’s inability to turn their possession into goals, scoring four was as good as it got.

They couldn’t make it back to back wins though as they were then beaten 2-1 at home to Eccleshall in their next match.

Bacup got punished for starting slow when the Staffordshire side took an early surprising lead, coming just seconds after Bacup themselves should have opened the scoring.

Despite Bacup Borough’s best efforts, it was Eccleshall that grabbed a second goal, coming from a free kick awarded that the official appeared to get wrong when it was actually the Eccleshall player who handled.

The official claimed a foul had been committed, and as much as the decision was a bad one, the free kick was excellent with quality and precision as the ball hit the back of the net.

The second half was all Bacup but they really failed to turn their superiority into goals. Rio Wilson Heys did find the net with a superb exquisite finish following a Bacup corner, but this goal was too little too late leaving Eccleshall with maximum points following their two first half goals.

Bacup then bounced back from their disappointing defeat of Eccleshall, by taking all three points with a 2-1 win against Daisy Hill.

The scores were all square at the break, but one of the league’s top scorers Ashley Stott made the breakthrough for Daisy Hill when he netted to make it 1-0.

Bacup had longs spells of good possession and produced several corners, with Adrian Bellamy going close with a header just over the bar.

It was from another corner where Bellamy made no mistake, finding the net with a stunning header to level things up.

Bacup went on to win the game following excellent link up play involving Jordan Rutter, Matthew Bryan and Anthony Hall down the left side of the pitch, with Matthew Bryan finding Hall who cut inside before beating the Daisy Hill keeper at his near post.

Given the circumstances, this was an excellent performance against Daisy Hill.
