MR Philip Birchall, of Hawley Terrace, Dartford, died in his home on Monday, April 24 aged 66.

He was a retired security guard, formerly in London and latterly of the Strategy Group in Nelson.

Philip was a former cricketer for Rawtenstal­l cricket club and a keen fisherman.

He leaves his wife Lorna,daughters Gloria and Faye, son Matthew, grandchild­ren Jada, Chloe, Olivia, Nyya and Kyron,his mother Sheila, sister Heather and son-in-law Bill as well as nephews, nieces and several friends.

His funeral takes place on Friday, May 12 at 11.20am at Burnley crematoriu­m.

GILLIAN KNIGHT

MRS Gillian Knight nee Halstead, formerly of Haslingden, died on Monday, May 1 at her home in Nelson, aged 54.

Gillian attended Haslingden High School.

She leaves two daughters Ann-Louise and Natasha Claire, son David John and grandchild­ren, brothers and sisters.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday, May 16 with service and cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m at 11.40am officiated by David Ireland.

KATH MURPHY

MRS Kathleen Murphy, of Holland Avenue, Rawtenstal­l, died on Wednesday, May 3 aged 66.

Kath loved her job at Bacup Post Office and was considered family by owners Zia and Moine.

Her interests included darts, dominoes, bowling and crosswords.

Kath’s journey with ill health started February 2016. Her bravery and approach to all the challenges were inspiratio­nal. Her journey was made lighter thanks to her adoring family and friends, GPs and staff at St James the Less surgery, Rossendale Hospice, Macmillan Nurses, Bacup District Nurses and many caring medical profession­als.

She leaves husband Michael, loving children Nicola, Marie, Claire, Michala and John-Paul, adoring grandchild­ren Ryan, Siobhan, Euan, Tim, Morten, Mitchell, Flynn, Joel, Ruby, Ella.

Sons-in-law Dominic, Stuart and Gary and daughter-in-law Louise. Brothers Colin Frank, Peter, sister Anne. Dear aunt, cousin, sister-in law and friend to many especially Dee.

Kath now joins her dad Owen, mum Annie, brothers Terry and Bill and sisters Pat and Marie.

The funeral service and celebratio­n of her life will take place at St Peter’s Church, Newchurch on Monday, May 15 at 10am, followed by a cremation at 11.40am at Accrington Crematoriu­m officiated by Fr Philip Boast. Family flowers only please, with donations to Rossendale Hospice directly or c/o funeral directors Anderson Horan.

MARY MOORE

MRS Mary Moore, of Rosendale Crescent, Bacup, died on Monday, May 8, at Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 89.

Her hobbies and interests included feeding the birds, cooking and taking care of the dogs.

A funeral will take place on Thursday, May 18, 2017, with prayers at Knight and Boys at 9.45am, followed by a service at 10.40am at Burnley Crematoriu­m administer­ed by Rev Philip Norris, followed by cremation.

Wife of the late Frank, and sister to the late Constance, she leaves great-nieces and nephews Zoe, Samantha, Daniel, Phoebe, Miley and Scarlett.

PHILIP PETTERSON

MR Philip Petterson, of Stackstead­s, died at home on Tuesday, May 2, aged 60.

He was a school caretaker at Fearns School before retirement and had lived in Stackstead­s all of his life.

He was a member of Bacup St. John Ambulance Brigade.

Brother of the late Bryan, Raymond and Ralph, he leaves nephews and nieces.

A funeral service will be held at 1.40pm on Wednesday, May 17, at Rochdale Crematoriu­m, followed by cremation.

DEREK FORD

MR Derek Ford, passed into his Heavenly Father’s arms on Sunday, May 7, surrounded by those who loved him.

He will be missed but… “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love Him”.

He was born on March 28, 1934.

A joiner by trade, he worked most of his life at Valley Supply Company in Stackstead­s. He loved watching and playing cricket and followed his team, Burnley Football Club.

He had a full and blessed life filled with family, wonderful friends and a supportive Church family here in Bacup.

Failing health necessitat­ed a move to Edinburgh with Barbara when he was 80. He leaves his devoted and loving wife Barbara, son Graham, Sharon his wife and their son Nye.

He also leaves daughter Ann, husband Alan and their three sons Jamie, Joe and Jack together with older brother Neville, and younger brother and sister Peter and Mary and their families.

The funeral will take place in Edinburgh on Saturday, May 20.

Family flowers, only please, however, donations for Parkinson’s UK and Dementia UK will be gratefully received.

ANNIE CORLESS

MRS Annie Corless, of South Street, Bacup, died peacefully at home on Saturday, May 6, aged 90.

Born in Bacup where she lived all of her life. She was employed as a cotton worker, mainly at the former India and Ross Mills in Bacup. She loved going to bingo, watching Sky television, gardening but mainly spending time with her greatgrand­aughter.

Wife of the late Billy who died in 2002, she leaves daughter June and her husband Gerry, grandson Carl and his wife Becky, great-grand daughter Ebony, nephews, nieces and many friends.

A service will be held at 11am on Friday, May 12, at the Chapel of Rest followed by interment in Bacup cemetery at 11.30am conducted by the Rev Michael Holt.
