Crier’s back pain invention
A TOWN crier who came up with an invention to ease his back pain is now hoping to see it take off.
Bacup and Stacksteads Carnival crier Ian Garside designed and made a specially-shaped cushion to relieve the pressure on the sciatic nerve.
The sports and massage therapist, 64, claims that the cushion works not just for him, but for the vast majority of people with back pain.
The former chief instructor with Rossendale Shotokan Karate Club, who lived in Weir before moving to Leicestershire two years ago, will be launching the product at The Back Pain Show in Birmingham on May 19.
The former Bacup Consortium Trust member has now formed IGMD Ltd, with two colleagues.
Ian said: “We will be using the show to launch a crowdfunding bid. The feedback from people who have participated in trialling the cushion was extremely encouraging. It has helped us refine the design.
“The design makes the cushion easy to use in any situation where being seated is essential.”
