Jim Schofield: Just a suggestion to the people moaning about the food at McDonalds, it’s easy don’t go and leave it to the many people that do. To those asking how did it get planning permission, probably the same way as all the other take always in Rawtenstall. Probably helped it was creating 130 jobs. Isn’t it time Rawtenstall moved into the 21st century instead of the dark ages? To those complaining of litter thrown from vehicles, any evidence of this and is that not the responsibility of the car drivers? Danny Jones: To be fair, Rawtenstall looks so much better these days than it did a few years ago. A lot cleaner and more modern looking. Who would of thought the town would have a swanky new McDonald’s and a Marks and Sparks? Simon Hampson: Swanky? You are so easily pleased I bet you live in Rossendale. Danny Jones: Funnily enough I’m from Edenfield........ Paula Jane McLaughlin: Stop your bleating....it had to happen one day that Rossendale was dragged into the future. They providing a service that people want not forgetting the 130 jobs they’re providing.

Samuel Walton: Is having a McDonald’s a sign of being in the future? Paula Jane McLaughlin: No but it’s moving with times. The trouble with Rossendale is that there are too many people who don’t like change and would rather live life stuck on them God awful cobbles on Bank Street.

Lucy Jade: The staff do checks around the area and some pick up litter even after shifts. It’s mostly school children that throw rubbish which is a shame as there is a

bin. Lee Bibby: McDonald’s can’t be held responsible for the lazy people dropping litter.

Sharon Pilling: Come on everybody Rossendale is moving on with the times, there are McDonalds everywhere now. It’s at the end of the bypass so will get passing trade, all the new buildings going up at New Hall Hey are going to bring people here. Joanne McQuillan: If you don’t like McDonalds, don’t go. I don’t go, but I do realise everyone’s different!!! Good luck to new businesses & new jobs in the area is all I have to say! Richard Braithwaite: Well done. Great for

the area BUT one thing would make this fantastic = an electric vehicle charge point (they have them at McDonald’s in USA) Guy Stonier: Useless! we have mcdonalds in Haslingden, people manage fine. Why couldn’t they put a burger king there or kfc, we have to travel a fair distance for them.

Sylvia McCarthy: It’s not Haslingden, it’s Rising Bridge. Guy Stonier: Sylvia McCarthy, oh god talk about splitting hairs, Winfields is in Haslingden, McDonalds couple hundred feet up the road is Rising Bridge, talk about nit picking!!! Candice Thompson: I for one like you am not impressed!

Mike Jones: Better than the previous, scruffy, vacant plot, and chance to get a half decent cup of coffee at sensible money. What’s the problem?

Louise Roney: I feel sorry for the residents in this area, I know I wouldn’t be happy with this on my doorstep.

June Worsley: We must have been blind, we had no idea it had opened, no leaflet drops, not noticed any advertising!

Lucy Jade: They relied on word of mouth to give them a bit of time to train their staff up as most are new starters. William Jopson: Must be selling a hell of a lot of burgers to need 130 staff. How many hours a week per employee?

Kelly Reeves: Took the kids today and no complaints here. Sandra Healey: Yes i’m glad its given local people jobs. Klair Ward: It looks great from the photos!! Laura Cobain-Murray: Trust Rawtenstall to have the fanciest McDonald’s ever!

YELLOW warning signs urge owners to take responsibility for dogs. Civic Pride has appointed a ‘Dog Poo Czar’ to keep the Valley cleaner (website and Free Press, May 19) Dale Cryer: As a dog owner myself, I welcome this idea, although maybe the council could help more by providing more litter bins, surely if there’s a bin near by then more chance of the dog owners who don’t pick up actually picking up?

Irene Tolley: Rawtenstall cemetery is full of dog poo people have dogs off the lead letting them run loose, I go up nearly every other day I have two dogs and always on the lead and clean up after them some people have no respect.

Thomas Push: Give us more bins...please..I’m fed up of carrying bags around with me. Please pick up your poo as it’s disgusting for people to see and horrid when you slip on it..bags are so cheap. Guy Stonier: People know its illegal and do it, you think putting up a few signs is going to change things? People do pick up the mess sometimes then throw them in bushes etc what does that tell you? Angela Paskin: As a dog owner I welcome a Dog Poo Czar. The lazy owners give the rest of us a bad name. The dog can’t clean up after itself! Tazdevilia Sondos Carrington: Well Burnley Road East is a constant nightmare! Sandra Owen: I hope he goes on Holland Avenue, someone on there lets there dog poo and never picks up. It’s disgusting. Lizzie Riley-Haworth: It’s working near St Peter’s school so thank you Civic Pride.

Sandra Healey: We need more bins please, I pick mine up and walk for mile without a bin.

Kelly Reeves: I’ve seen a few of these in Waterfoot.

Molly Holt: But not on Burnley Road East where there is a big problem. All the way to bridleway and probably beyond.

Kelly Reeves: Thornfield has them, the whole valley has a problem.

Andy Darcy: Could we have a stencil for the Edenfield area please? She Birt: About time.

Sandra Healey: We need more bins all over.
