Cup joy for BRGS
FOOTBALL BACUP and Rawtenstall Grammar School won the Under 19s Lancashire County Cup after an enthralling final against Clitheroe Royal Grammar School at AFC Darwen.
The deadlock was broken on 60 minutes, after a BRGS shot struck the arm of a Clitheroe player and a penalty was awarded.
Dom Boardman added to his four goals of the campaign by calmly dispatching the penalty to the goalkeeper’s right.
BRGS were quickly further ahead after a superb run from Bailey Hunter, taking on three players, before firing the ball into the top right corner to make it 2-0.
Clitheroe managed to pin BRGS back after a defensive mix-up led to the ball being scrambled past Harvey Musgrave.
BRGS nerves were soon settled after a poor clearance from the Clitheroe goalkeeper allowed Amrit Chahal to slot home from a tight angle to restore the two goal cushion.
Clitheroe managed a consolation goal in the dying seconds, however BRGS ran out winners 3-2, allowing Dom Boardman to lift the trophy for first time since 2008.
