“It was a good game played by two good sides, and we lost around 50 overs to rain, so after that it was always going to be tough to get a result on that wicket.

“It is nice to come out slightly on top points wise.”

Lancashire haven’t beaten Yorkshire in the Championsh­ip since 2011 at Aigburth, and the drought at Old Trafford goes back, amazingly, stretches back as far as 2000.

But they will have another chance to end that barren run in their next match, when they travel to Headingley on June 2 for the return Championsh­ip clash.

The result leaves Lancashire third in Division One after the opening four matches, just six points behind leaders Essex.

Meanwhile, Anderson – who batted with a runner on Monday suggesting his injury is not too serious – was due to have a scan on his groin on Monday night. ●● Steven Croft
