MRS Jessie Bell formerly Quinn, died on Thursday, June 1, aged 84.

She worked at a cotton mill in Bacup then at Thorn Primary School as a dinner lady. She also worked as a cook and dinner lady at Constable Primary and a cook at St Nicholas Primary.

She enjoyed knitting when she was younger and liked reading, bingo and watching cookery programmes on television.

Wife of the late Kenneth Quinn and the late John Bell, she was mother of Christine, Doreen, Stephen and the late David and Kathleen. She also leaves nine grandchild­ren and seven great-grandchild­ren.

Her funeral will take place on Monday, June 12 with a service prior to cremation at Burnley Crematoriu­m at 3pm, officiated by David Ireland.

Family flowers only, with donations to the Rossendale Hospice.

Jasmine Clayton, from Lumb, had a bob style haircut aged 3 and has grown it ever since.

The Whitworth High pupil, 13, has sent a 12.5-inch long plait to The Little Princess Trust to be made into wigs for children who have lost their hair to cancer and other illnesses.

She was sponsored to have the haircut – done by mobile hairdresse­r Jenny Cooper – and best friend Katie Heath nominated the MPS Society to benefit on her behalf. Katie’s brother Jack sadly passed away nearly four years ago with MPS II Hunter Syndrome.

Jasmine said: “I had only ever had my hair trimmed before.

“I was a bit shocked when I first had it cut and it was a bit scary, but now it is shorter it is easier to manage.

“When I went into school everyone said that they really liked it shorter, but I think I will grow it long again.”
