A THREE-DAY event featuring storytelle­rs, poets, writers and musicians will be held at The Whitaker Museum and Art Gallery this month.

The Whitaker Words Weekender will run from Friday, June 16, to Sunday, June 18, at the venue on Haslingden Road, Rawtenstal­l.

On the Friday from 7pm, William Neary will perform his First World War story, Far More Grace Than Me.

On the Saturday, there will be writing workshops with John G Hall and Tony Curry from 2pm to 3.30pm.

From 4pm to 6pm, there will be an open mic event hosted by Tony Curry and the Spoken Word Competitio­n winners with special guest appearance­s from Gordon Zola, Emma Decent, George Melling, John G Hall, Sharon Lowe and Charlie Pink.

From 7pm that evening, a host of performanc­es will take place, with talent including playwright Cathy Crabb, poet and author Gerry Potter, punk poet Rev Porl, performanc­e poet Thick Richard and musician Sarah Grundy.

Tickets to the evening event cost £5 and can be booked in advance or bought on the door.

The weekend event will finish with an open-micstyle event from 4pm to 6pm on Sunday, where people are invited to read their favourite lyrics to the house to mark Father’s Day, followed by poetry and music from Dave Morgan and The Green Door Ensemble.
