Captain Bellamy gets recognition

- SHELDAN KEAY

BACUP Borough captain Adrian Bellamy has been celebrating after he was named in the Hallmark Security League Division One Team of the Year.

The defender has been rock solid for his side as he has put in a number of impressive performances throughout the campaign.

The recognition comes after he started 42 of his team’s 47 games in all competitions this season, scoring six goals in the process.

Bellamy joined Bacup back in 2009 after being released by Manchester United, and also had a brief spell on loan with Bradford City.

He has also been capped by England at youth level, and Bacup manager Brent Peters is proud of his defender.

“Getting named in the Division One Team of the Year is testament to the contribution and level of consistent performances throughout the season that Adrian has produced,” he said.

“The fact that Adrian made 42 starts from 47 games tells its own story, and apart from a three match ban I am sure it would have been 45 starts.

“In a difficult season Adrian has been different class, not only by way of performances but the way he helped and guided what was an extremely young side which in a lot of cases was the highest level those boys had played at.

“Adrian helped to galvanise the team together, and this recognition is certainly a creditable achievement for Adrian and the club.”
