JEAN WORTHINGTON

-

whom she met most working in the city centre of Manchester for companies such as Kendal’s, Bupa and Debenhams. These were lifelong friends she made who we know she was still in contact with until the very end.

As children we have fond memories of spending a great deal of time with my mum and dad (they met at Bangor University and married in 1960). She cherished my brother and I dearly and cared for us whilst my father worked, up until my brother and I reached high school. We had a wonderful childhood, spending lots of time with my mum’s parents in Anglesey, our Nain (grandma) made the best cakes - it must have been where my mum learnt to cook - she made the best home cooked meals for us.

She was a flamboyant lady who loved to travel the countryside with my father, especially Bolton Abbey and Harrogate.

She loved my dad unconditionally and cared for him dearly.

When my father fell ill she tended to his every need, retiring from work - in order to care for him to the best of her ability.

We have warm memories of my mum and dad, they loved each other deeply.

When he passed she was so lost without him. She moved from the family home in Haslingden to a flat in Ilex Mill, Rawtenstall. This was more manageable for her.

This was around the time she met Keith. My mum and Keith have had some amazing times together - and he has cared for her throughout her illness.

A sincere friend and shoulder to lean on. They OUR mother Jean Worthington (born in Anglesey on August 15, 1940) was an incredibly independent and hardworking woman - who taught us how to love and care for one another.

She was a very humble person, who was widely appreciated by her community. She was a very open minded woman of her era - appreciating all religions and faiths. She had lots of friends of have both played massive parts in both my children’s lives (Syrah and Ilias), as my wife (Nurshina) and I worked full time. They’d pick them up from school and spoil them rotten...as grandparents should! My mum had an exceptional bond with my wife, who cared for my mum like she was her own. They spoke on a daily basis and were huge parts of each others’ lives. My mum loved Nurshina profoundly, she meant a great deal to her.

My older brother Ian and wife Ermana, together with their daughters Jessica and Florence have shared many happy memories together with our mum. From advising Ermana in the garden to connecting with the girls about the latest trends and fashions, our mum tried hard to be an active part of everyone’s lives.

Our mum displayed such determination throughout her battle with cancer, she is and always will be a true inspiration to all of us. We would all like to thank Pendleside Hospice, Dr Badea, Dr Macpherson and the palliative medical care for making her last moments as comfortable and peaceful as possible. My mum has helped shape who we all are and will be terribly missed by everyone.

All our love forever and always, Rob, Ian and family.

Jean’s funeral will be held at 3pm on Friday, July 7 at Accrington Crematorium. Family flowers only with donations to either Macmillan Cancer Support, Pendleside Hospice or Rossendale Hospice.

Funeral director: Dawn Johnson at Fred Hamer Funeral Service, James Street, Rawtenstall.
