BACUP Borough manager Brent Peters is excited to get pre-season underway when they take on Hyde United on Saturday.

It has been a busy summer for the club not only in terms of recruiting players for the new campaign but also with various projects going on in the stadium, and Peters is looking forward to seeing things unfold.

“This game is somewhat a rarity not only by the fact we have not crossed swords in the past with Hyde United during my time but also by the fact I usually stay well clear of playing pre-season games at home in order to give the pitch time to recover following the yearly maintenance work we do,” he said.

“A new drain has been run from eighteen yard box to eighteen yard box hopefully this will be the answer in ensuring we do not have any further issues at the top end of the pitch during the really heavy wet winter conditions thus restricting the many postponements we have encountered in the past.

“Against Hyde we will inevitably have to close certain sections of our ground off for spectators due to a health and safety issue as work has been going on since the end of the last season where shared access have been erecting a new floodlight pylon which will house a mast in improving the reception for mobile users.

“This work has not been completed yet which leaves certain sections of the stadium more like a building site, so for this we do apologise but this work must not prevent our preseason preparations for which we are only four weeks away from competing in the FA Cup.

“This has been your usual typical non-league pre-season when players are coming off holiday and going on holiday, passing each other like ships in the night, given this we will be nowhere near a full complement.

“The team verses Hyde will consist of some of last season’s squad with the addition of Josh Walne, who rejoins us having left prior to the start of last season to sign for Warrington Town.

“The rest will be trialists who have worked extremely hard in training along with the other members of last season’s squad, their work rate as a collective bunch has been pleasing to see.

“If their football technique shows up as well as their work rate and attitude, then we are in for an exciting season.

“Win Lose or draw, I do not want supporters judging us on this or any other pre-season game, they must remember this is all part of the build up to the season, and the time to try out things, so it’s very much work in progress.”
