PUPILS from two Valley schools bagged medals for Team Rossendale at the county’s largest youth sporting event.

More than 2,000 pupils from 15 districts met at Blackpool’s Stanley Park to compete in the SPAR Lancashire School Games county finals, in a bid to be crowned county champions in a range of sports.

Haslingden High School pupils were on form for Team Rossendale, finishing joint first in the duathlon (cycling and running) event to claim a gold medal, while Crawshawbo­oth Primary School pupils scored a bronze ●● Crawshawbo­oth Primary won bronze in girls’ football medal in the highly anticipate­d girls’ football fixture.

Following months of qualifying competitio­ns to earn their places in the finals, pupils did not let rain dampen their spirits as they battled it out in 16 events including athletics, cricket, gymnastics, tee ball and mini tennis.

The title of overall county champions was bestowed upon Team Chorley, which scooped a total of six medals.

Now in its 11th year, the SPAR Lancashire School Games is implemente­d by the county’s school games organisers and sponsored by James Hall and Company Ltd, SPAR distributo­rs for the North of England. ●● Kate Holt, of Helmshore Primary, in action in the mini tennis tournament
